Chaenomeles speciosa ‘Cameo’, Cameo Flowering Quince
Year first potted as a bonsai: 2001
Estimated age when first potted: 4 years
One of sixteen bonsai donated to Hidden Lake Gardens by Bill Heston in mid-October 2012, this Cameo quince is believed to be the same spreading plant Bill Heston and Jack Wikle dug from Jack’s garden in the early 2000’s and potted in its current pot. At that time it was thought to be about four years old. Although there has been some loss of branches and a few trunks over the years, flowering in early May has always been predictable and profuse making it a spring standout.
