A Gibraltar, Michigan excavating contractor who wintered in Florida, Clive Taylor had also been an active bonsai enthusiast since the early
1980’s.
Now often on exhibit as one of the standouts in the Hidden Lake Gardens Bonsai Display Courtyard, ongoing care for this bonsai has
been provided by the Gardens’ staff and volunteers for the past eight years.
In 1985 he collected this cypress from land being cleared during development of a subdivision in the Naples, Florida area. Since doing its early styling, Clive maintained this tree as a bonsai for 30 years until, being in failing health, he donated it to Hidden Lake Gardens in the fall
of 2015.
