I was fortunate enough to be taught the art of bonsai by Jack Wikle back in the fall/winter of 2004. It was a great experience I will always cherish. We met for many months on a Sunday, 8 hours a session. The hours flew by. Jack taught me how to create the perfect bonsai soils for different types of bonsai. He showed be the correct way to style and wire trees. Jack Wikle inspired me to become a bonsai artist the next 2 decades. The amount of time and work he has put into keeping alive the art of Michigan bonsai is nothing short of spectacular. Without his guidance, we would not have the the high quality collections at the Matthai Botanical Gardens and Hidden Lake Gardens. I’m honored to have been able to learn from this great man of bonsai.
