I remember my first Bonsai Society of Kalamazoo meeting way back in January or February of 2003. You were the guest master. You brought a large cooler with you and I can still remember my amazement as you pulled tiny tree after tiny tree out, each one more incredible than the last. I was hooked. I believe it was that meeting or the next when I purchased a little Burtt-Davii ficus from Jenny. Of course after seeing your mame trees I wanted to keep it small and head down the path set forth by you. That tree is still with me and likely would not look the same without your influence. I have attached some pics from its journey.
As well as being a great inspiration you have always been a treasure chest of knowledge and always quick to share it along with some encouraging words. You have saved me so much time by not having to research and or argue with the current bonsai folks about the best lights to use for indoor growing! I just listened to you and grow under plain old shop lights, just keep them close, no misting, keep it simple! Once I got some experience you invited me to the Ann Arbor club to do demos which I greatly appreciate. It always made me feel that I was on the right track when you would throw out there: keep an eye on this guy, he is going to do good things (or something along those lines)! Always quick with a smile. Always made me feel welcome. I feel blessed to call you friend and mentor!
